Transnational Corporations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Transnational Corporations - Essay Example The transnational enterprises have enormous incomes and can practice more power than the individual states across which they work. The organizations ‘command huge money related assets, have tremendous specialized assets, and they have broad worldwide reach’ (CSIDS, n.d, p.1). It has been noticed that the joined income of General Motors and Ford is bigger than the all out Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the nations in Sub-Saharan Africa (Ward, 2003). Equivalent insights and realities apply to other goliath car companies on the planet and the individual economy of specific nations. It at that point beats rationale in the sort of impact that these transnational enterprises can have on the provincial and worldwide economy. In that capacity, the transnational enterprises have noteworthy market power (Ietto-Gillies, 2012). They assume critical jobs and they have negative and positive effects on the nearby, provincial, and worldwide improvement issues. This paper centers aroun d the jobs that the TNCs play in molding the worldwide economy and the noteworthy effects that have been seen from the transition to go worldwide. The mastery of these huge companies in various segment of the world economy is delineated. The effects of the TNC Significant advancements have been recorded in the outside direct ventures by the transnational companies since the 1980s with the TNCs taking various structures (Lundan, 2011, p.640). Critical increments have additionally been seen in the value of the FDIs. For example, the all out worldwide outside direct interest in 2002 added up to about $651bn (CSIDS, n.d). The created countries are the significant home nations for the outside direct financial specialists and the nations get a significant part of the returns from the ventures. Much writing is accessible that emphasis on the effects of TNCs on the nations of origin (the created countries) and the literary works presume that the surges in Foreign direct ventures relates emp hatically with the net efficiency in the nation of origin (Sauvant, 2008, p.229). To the creating countries, the remote direct ventures give the biggest wellspring of outer account to the home economy (CSIDS, n.d). Regardless, it is as yet begging to be proven wrong with respect to whether the transnational enterprises help in building up this immature countries or the partnerships are simply in quest for their advantage and couldn't care less about their negative effects on the general public. In as much as the associations might be viewed as wellsprings of assets to the beneficiary countries, it is additionally advantageous to take note of that the associations are out to look for benefits. Endeavors to have a condition of harmony between these two clashing jobs (a benefit looking for association and wellspring of assets to the beneficiary nation) lead to blend of negative effects of the transnational organizations on the national and local economies. Possible advantages of TNCs O ne of the positive effects of the TNCs is that they make work openings in the beneficiary countries (CSIDS, n.d). Accessibility of modest work is one among the elements that drive an organization to go worldwide and set up its FDIs in

Business Sustainability Water; Sun and Fuel

Question: Talk about the Business Sustainability for Water, Sun and Fuel. Answer: Presentation In a customary reasoning, one could believe that organizations work freely and have nothing to do with the general public and the indigenous habitat they work in. Envision a circumstance where there was no wellspring of vitality: water; sun and fuel. Organizations couldn't work. This is on the grounds that in one manner or the other they rely upon these significant assets to run their activities. Strangely, every one of these assets are from the regular habitat and they are rarely enough. In a straightforward manner, this agreements the possibility of business autonomy and affirms that they rely upon the common habitat for their endurance. From my course, economical business that business, society and common habitat can't be detached in light of the fact that at one point they all converge is affirmed. Learned Concepts By and by, before joining this course, it didn't sound good to me that business exercises could have some genuine effect on the general public and indigenous habitat. It appeared to be a typical thing to scramble and secure as more assets as could be expected under the circumstances. The more organizations rely upon these assets without being capable, the sooner they get drained and they couldn't proceed with their typical activities (Moyeen Courvisanos, 2012). This is on the grounds that the assets will be depleted. This is the explanation with respect to why I have come to believe the idea of business maintainability to be significant. The accompanying maintainability topics have helped handle the idea of business manageability: triple primary concern, six types of capital utilized by business, six periods of business ways to deal with supportability and organizations driving in participating in economical business. Triple main concern: According to Andrew (2006, pg 47) triple primary concern is a bookkeeping idea used to gauge the exhibition of corporate bodies including organizations, charitable creation associations and government partnerships. In contrast to the conventional method of estimating execution as far as benefits and comes back to the business, this idea goes past that. It additionally considers, the natural and social variables. This topic of business manageability has helped me figure out how significant benefits, individuals and regular habitat are to a business. This is on the grounds that I am presently ready to see how the three, to be specific: business, individuals and indigenous habitat connect. While the regular habitat is a wellspring of vitality and crude materials, individuals give work and market to merchandise and ventures. This implies along these lines that the accomplishment of business extraordinarily relies upon how well the three are interrelated (Cameron Quin n, 2006). This understanding will assist me with giving specific consideration to creating various measures to help secure condition and engaging the general public in which the business works. Six types of capital utilized by business: Capitalism isn't just about money related capital. This is on the grounds that business doesn't just depend on funds. There are different sorts of capital and that include: outside monetary capital, regular capital, human capital, social capital and developed capital. Due to this significant subject, I am ready to discover that business can't rely upon budgetary capital alone to endure. For example, the business where require a physical situation where to manufacture a processing plant. This may affect the land cost. Likewise, human capital gives the necessary aptitude, information and experience to maintain the business (Wells, 2011). In basic terms, toward the finish of the course I will have the option to measure and worth different types of capital as I do with money related capital. This is to guarantee that the business esteems different types of capital as it does with money related capital. This is significant in guaranteeing that th e business is continued and monetary profits kept up as the general public and common habitat gain (Potts, 2010). Six periods of business ways to deal with maintainability: From the information picked up in this unit, I have likewise come to discover that accomplishing business manageability is definitely not a receptive methodology yet rather a bit by bit approach. The particular stages to guaranteeing business manageability include: dismissal, non-responsiveness, consistence, effectiveness, key proactivity and the continuing partnership. Along these lines, by and by I will have the option to survey the particular factors that lead to dismissal and non-responsiveness. This will assist me with building up measures to guarantee consistence to manageability while advancing authoritative proficiency (Brown, 2011). This is on the grounds that great measures guarantee that an association acknowledges guidelines and rules and supports change. Organizations driving in taking part in supportable business: It has likewise become obvious that those organizations that have great approaches as to business manageability are additionally fruitful and have had the option to manufacture solid world brands. A portion of the organizations driving in manageability include: Ford, Starbucks, Alcoa, PepsiCo, General Electric and Nike among others (theGuardian, 2017). A large number of these organizations have solid responsibility strategies with clear arrangements on human rights and indigenous habitat assurance. From these models, I have had the option to discover that the significance of creating solid strategies coordinated at wellbeing and assorted variety just as stewardship. This is to guarantee that the business endeavors to develop its net revenues as well as supports the general public and the regular habitat in which it works in through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) exercises (Azapagic, 2003). End Business manageability as a course is basic in helping the learner in understanding different subjects, ideas and difficulties confronting numerous associations. This is on the grounds that organizations work, not in disconnection however on the side of different factors, for example, network and the regular habitat. This course assumes a huge job in giving foundation data respect to business maintainability that an understudy can use in future practice to guarantee that their organizations are supportable and receptive to the earth they work in. As a rule, to be feasible, relies upon the qualities that the business represents and the overarching guidelines. References Andrew, S. (2006). The Triple Bottom Line. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass. Powerful Women in Antigone and A Doll’s House Essay

The music group, Aqua, once sang in their song, â€Å"Barbie Girl,† â€Å"I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world. Life in plastic, it’s fantastic.† Aqua’s lyrics symbolize the role women had to play in the 18th century. Women were expected to perform like perfect human beings, and put a smile on their faces regardless of the situation. They were expected to follow the rules at all times and submit to men in an instance. Antigone, written by Sophocles, and A Doll’s House, written by Henrik Ibsen, demonstrate the interaction and roles with men and women during the 18th century. The main characters in both plays, Antigone in Antigone and Nora in A Doll’s House, show how women have struggled to find their place in the social order. They had to fight for†¦show more content†¦Linden to leave the room when Helmer gets home because Helmer does not like seeing â€Å"Women’s work.† Nora was forced to hide her personal posses sions in front of her husband. This shows how women were forced to alter their lifestyle to please their husbands. Nora had to go out of her way in order to make her husband satisfied. In Antigone, Ismene replies to Antigone’s plan to bury her brother with a feminist remark: â€Å"Remember we are women, we’re not born to contend with men. Then too, we’re underlings, ruled by much stronger hands, so we must submit to this...† (Sophocles 18) Ismene clearly shows that she and Antigone cannot compete with men because men are physically and mentally stronger. This shows how Ismene and all other women thought they had to submit to the authority of the state and to man in order to live fruitfully in society. Antigone and Nora exhibit in many different instances how women had a very limited relationship with men. Antigone and Nora had the courage to possess one of the characteristics that many women during the 18th century failed to acquire: braveness. While struggling with the decision to go against a man’s orders, Antigone stands up to authority and does the morally just thing: â€Å"But leave me to my own absurdity, leave me to suffer this- dreadful thing. I’ll suffer nothing as great as death without glory.† (Sophocles 19) This instance shows how Antigone was one of the few women of her era to face theShow MoreRelatedThe Strength and Courage of Women Exposed in A Doll’s House and Antigone1183 Words   |  5 PagesHave you ever wondered what women were like before the liberation movement of the 1970s? The Russian Civil War was to tear Russia apart for three years – between 1918 and 1921. The civil war occurred because after November 1917, many groups had formed that opposed Lenin’s Bolsheviks. These groups included monarchists, militarists, and, for a short time, foreign nations. Collectively, they were known as the Whites while the Bolsheviks were known as the Reds. Lenin imposed an iron grip on territory under the control of the Bolsheviks. The party had a secret police unit called the Cheka, which was set up by Lenin on 20th December 1917, it ruthless in hunting out possible opponents to Lenin. In many areas of Russia, where the Bolsheviks had control, the Cheka was judge, jury and executioner. Its power was massively extended after August 30th, 1918. War Communism was introduced by Lenin to combat the economic problems brought on by the civil war in Russia. Lenin was given much credit for this and was a key reason in why the Reds won the civil war. This is the important example because it clearly shows that Lenin had a major effect on the communist party’s survival, by instrumenting key aspects in winning the civil war. To conclude, it is possible to think that Lenin was unimportant in enabling the communist to survive the war and rebellion.Show MoreRelatedThe First And Hardest Part Of Writing An Essay923 Words   |  4 Pages The first and hardest part of writing an essay is figuring out how to start. Significant Role of Internship-Free-Samples-Myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Write a reflection on the Value of your Placement in helping to Prepare you as a New Professional in your Chosen Field. Answer: Introduction The report talks about the perks of doing an internship which is quite motivating and helpful for further development. It also explains that how internship plays a significant role in future professional success. Internship This had been my greatest achievement to work as an intern. The day I thought of doing the internship I was unaware of the path it will lead me to. The thought came to my mind randomly and decided not to let it go, rather there should be the optimum use of it. The idea of internship has not only given me ample of knowledge in different fields but also made me ready to compete with the outer world on a professional level. The day I started doing my job I was not sure if I would be able to make it as per the needs of companys expectation or not, but the kind of environment I got made it easier for me to work (Pattberg, 2012). The knowledge I acquired during the internship was not only limited for a particular time but also helped me towards my future goals. The job I was positioned under was of Front Office Assistant. At this position i had to tackle with the guests behavior and making their profiles, answering calls over phone managing the paper work, making a new reservation and canc eling the unnecessary. So my job was not that easy but obvious, heights are achieved not through short cuts (Kolb, 2014). I worked as an intern in Comfort Inn Bel Eyer Hotel Perth and my job was to attend all type of guests, to be attentive towards work of all sorts. Most importantly the qualities needed to work possessed patience, humbleness, politeness, and ability to work in a disciplined manner, which was inculcated in me already. While working I gained so much, as the work assigned to me was always carried in a professional manner by me. Hence, it led me with greater job perspectives as the work taught me to be professional in approach (Galster Hill, 2012). Coming to professional aspect, since the beginning I had a huge interest in the field of mass media (i.e.) journalism where you have to deal with others and handle the areas of jobs where you have been assigned, therefore I chose to intern in this category which helped me knowing behaviors of people and to be true to work. The internship taught me to be in discipline, be honest towards work and give a fruitful output as expected. The work done should put the mark and should be such that it encourages you to dig more and more. This internship has not only helped me build my status but also increased my efficiency to work more and more as I was made to stay for long hours when the hotel had a huge massive gathering, which is what mainly needed to complete my profile as a professional. It has transformed my abilities and showcased my passion to do work. The major influence through this internship is shown on my career prospects as what a company these days strive for is an experience. T his has not only made our involvement into professionalism but also allowed us to put our first step towards finance. The perks I got in return were quite motivating which continued my interest in work (Darling-Hammond, 2012). On contrary, I think that what I lacked while working on this internship is marketing. I have an interest in marketing therefore in marketing more and more success requires. The strategies planned under this makes one creative and highlights the thinking capacity of an individual. Moreover, in todays era, the market is flourishing with a great speed because of extra ordinary people. Hence, for success in professionalism, one needs to think out of the box and create his own path by achieving more and more. Marketing these days is acquiring 70% of the human population as it has got money and fame, so to achieve it I would say my plan is to work under the supervision of someone who can embrace me with such ideas. Also, when it comes to web designing, I would say it is a larger platform for those who wish to develop their career in IT sector. This is the top trending sector mainly which interests youngsters to enroll themselves in making the world a technological place to live in. I woul d intend on this particular matter as well because I have been studying computer informative since past 2 years and more and in no mood to slip it. I know how to design a website, I know how to create forms, and I am also a programmer but I was not asked to do this. Therefore, after knowing so much about this I have no plans to let it go otherwise. So as per the 12 months are concerned I will practice all these areas under guidance, as leaving them will lessen the chances of success in future (Bernardo, Landicho Laguador, 2014). Conclusion: The idea of doing internship gave me immense powers to acknowledge my work within the professional skills keeping in mind the criteria and functions. I incurred a lot of knowledge and work experience which developed my interest in different fields. It has embodied me to compete with challenges. References: Bernardo, A. Annotations for Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand Essay Example

Annotations for Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand Essay The Preface describes just how famous Seabiscuit was back around 1938. Our generation has grown up in an age where horse races are not famous, but rather football and baseball games, rock stars, and political figures are. Seabiscuit had trains that were â€Å"Seabiscuit Limited† and there was even Seabiscuit revenue that sold like crazy. Seabiscuit, for my generation, could be comparable to the Big Ben of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Red Pollard, Tom Smith, and Charles Howard formed a team that carried Seabiscuit to the top. He moves to San Francisco, California, with barely any money, and starts a bike repair shop. In San Francisco, the â€Å"horse-less† carriage arose which many were afraid of. Howard saw opportunity. He created an automobile repair shop. He then traveled to Detroit and met with the Will Durant, chief of Buick Automobiles, whom then hired Howard. On April 18, 1906, there was an earthquake in San Francisco. The horse carriages could not take the firefighters in the fire to save the injured and homeless people or to get rid of the dead. Howard let them use the three cars he had, which in turn worked and showed automobiles’ superiority. He had started a revelation. Howard then started doing daring stunts and races to promote a car’s durability. He was all over the press; whether in heroic stories of him winning a race or an ad for Buick’s, he had the limelight. In 1926, a rich, successful Howard took his wife out to Del Monte, and left their 15-year-old son, Frankie, at home. When they were gone, tragedy struck. Frankie had taken the car out with some friends to go fishing. On their way home, they were driving on a canyon road and saw a large rock, which he swerved to avoid. The car went down over the edge. Frankie’s spine and skull crushed, he was dead. Howard was devastated; he never quite got over it. In the 1920’s, if a man wanted to sin, California was not the place to be. So instead they traveled to Tijuana which was a town to go when you wanted to sin. There was alcohol, gambling, dancing, and cavorting all over the town. There, the Tijuana Racecourse was built; many called it ugly but had the first movable gates and photo finishes. Here Howard would sometimes travel. Charles’ son was married to Anita, who was pregnant. During her pregnancy, she asked her sister Marcela to come and stay with them. While she was there, she and Charles fell in love. Only a few more horses clopped down the streets in San Francisco, cars were the main attraction. Charles was rich, but bored, so he moved on to horseracing. Former pro baseball player Charles Strub lost everything in the stock market, he decided to build a racetrack and bring racing back to California. Only two conditions racing become legal again. One, tracks had to use the pari-mutuel wagering machine instead of the bookmakers. Two, wagering would be heavily taxed. Charles Howard went on the look for the best trainer. Connections- The town of Tijuana reminds me of Las Vegas, which is also known as Sin City. Both towns have many things that are frowned upon and when you go, you come back like it never happened.

Values Important in My Life Essays - Identity Management, Law

Values Important in My Life Essays - Identity Management, Law Values Important in My Life Hiral Patel MGT 111*BC Professor McMillin 10/19/2012 Personal values are referred to as the defining principles in a person as an individual. These principles help determine how a person will face the world and relate with people as required. Personal values are a conviction concerning what a person believes is vital and desirable in his or her life. To me, a value is known to be a belief, or a philosophy, which is useful or can be useful in the future. My culture, environment, background, and family instill my values and ethics. There are many values that are important and that define my existence: family, independence, wisdom, education, progress and change, privacy, friendship, love, helping others, and achievement and success. I have grown up understanding the importance of family and relationships. I have been taught that your family are one of the only few people in the world who will be by your side and support you at all times. My family members are basically my advisors who teach me the right and wrong in life. My mother would always say, "If a family is and stays together, there is a solution for everything." I have always believed that keeping relationships with my family members is quite important because not only do they guide me through life, but they also help me with all kinds of dilemmas. Independence is prominent because I live according to my principles and I make my own decisions. It is my freedom and a chance to choose my way and my belief, which I am able to follow without it being prosecuted. Independence is having the right to agree, to disagree, and to have an education regardless of my race or gender or where I was born. It is my ability to choose. It is fine if I make mistakes because that is the only way I will learn. I will trip, and get back up and try again. Wisdom helps express my individuality. It is the light that guides my life and allows me to see the truth and not be blinded by others. With wisdom, I have the ability to se e beneath the surface of things, and I have the ability to make the best, informed decisions at any given time. If I use my wisdom when I am in a problem, I realize that I have solved many problems similar to the one I am in right now. Wisdom then assists me in getting rid of my problem. Wisdom prevents me from making and committing unethical decisions and actions. Education is a form of gaining knowledge of the world around me. It helps me build opinions and have points of view on aspects in life. Education is not just about lessons in textbooks, but about lessons of life, as well. It brings up questions and also helps me devise ways to find satisfactory answers to them. Also, I have grown up understanding the importance of education and how it opens doors to brilliant career opportunities. Every employer today requires expertise and employees to be well educated. Thus , education becomes an eligibility criterion for employment in any sector of the industry. Progress and change are both necessary in having and leading a successful life. Without them, I would just remain where I am forever. Progress is necessary in every aspect of life, as the world seems to be continuously changing all of the time. It does not have to be a major leap because small steps add up with time. Changes in life are inevitable. They make life more challenging for me because life without challenges is boring. It is better to try, experience, and accept new things. For me, privacy is necessary to protect my interests in certain situations. I do not consider privacy important due to embarrassment in front o f people, but rather because I personally l ike aspects of my life to be private. Yes, I would reveal things to a few people such as my family members, but other than that, I take privacy seriously. To me, it is the only way to be safe and avoid any kind of trouble. Having

P&G Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

P&G - Case Study Example where the brightest minds have gathered together over the decades to come up with new products that customers would be happy to use on a regular basis, thus providing strength to the bottom line financially. Over ten years ago, P & G realized that market growth was expanding very rapidly, but that there was a slight decline in P & G sales, and innovation projects were only meeting 15 percent in success targets. This presented a challenge that many companies were facing at that time: how to keep up, move forward, and develop a larger range of fresh innovation which would help drive both the top and bottom growth line (Innosight web: Addison web). The P & G research and development (R & D) group consisted of 8,000 internal researchers situated in laboratories across the globe, in 26 facilities, and it was determined that the company had to find a way to make innovation processes, systematic, repeatable and reliable (Innosight web). Solving the Problem of Innovation and Development. It was decided, at this point, to move research and innovation out to the public level, including the customer view as to what they wanted to see on the market that they would purchase (Innosight web). In essence, this was a case of including the public into its hallowed halls of research and development innovation, in order to move beyond the previous insular situation of researchers who were constantly trying to come up with new ideas. Including the public into this new program, called â€Å"Connect & Develop†, opened many doors for the company innovation program, the researchers involved who helped clients/customers to bring dreams and innovative ideas to life, and provided a much larger, ongoing influx of new ideas and products (Addison web). In the Internet age, this has also become a big bonus where researchers and clients can communicate easily over the Internet in any number of ways, thus speeding up the process of in teraction during the development phase of ideas and

Compare and Contrast images of L.A Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Compare and Contrast images of L.A - Essay Example Ponce’s use of imagery and description in the text makes you feel like you are actually right there with her watching Roy Rogers and Cassidy movies on Sundays. Her joyful tone makes it seem as if life in those days was much easier and less demanding than it is today in our global rat race. In those days, the people would look forward to Father Mueller’s western movies after rosary; it would create a break from monotony and encourage socialization. Today, I’m sure, a teenager would not be caught dead at a social organized by the church, and instead they prefer going to the theatres/movies (which are now extremely affordable), the discos and other places where â€Å"occasions of sin† are very likely to happen. Her word choice is superb; especially the mixture of Spanish and English when relaying a conversation shows the Spaniards character: hot, bubbly and dramatic. The tone of the text gives the reader a sense of excitement and a want to read more, to see w hat is going to happen next. You almost feel as if you want to go back to that day and age and live the author’s life. In almost all aspects, both authors write in the same manner, but of different things. The author also shows the cheekiness of a teenage girl when she speaks of her loyalty to the older ladies for whom she translates the films: â€Å"At times the movies were too long, the plot too predictable. I would tire of my job and yearn to sit in front with Elena. By now I had spent the money given me by Dona Luisa and the Trinidads. As the show dragged on, I fidgeted in my seat, edging toward Elena. Once I had collected mas cincos, I sought ways to escape from the boring job of translating an old cowboy movie. One usually worked†¦ (pg. 805, p. 5). I remained unruffled, my fist tight around the nickels I had earned, as I pushed my way toward Elena. Around me the thoroughly confused women sat in wonder at this sudden turn of events. They squabbled, each wanting to believe only what they had seen on the white screen, until told to â€Å"hush† by those sitting in back†¦. (pg. 806, p. 3). At times I felt guilty about the translation and the nickels, especially when the senoras began to bicker among themselves. My guilt would last until the following Sunday, when once more I might recite an original version of an old western. (pg. 807)† In this respect, we see how children and teenagers have not really evolved much throughout the years, the feelings, the attitudes and the actions are still very much the same. Sure, today one does not have to translate a movie, but it can be seen at events where a teenager who shows up with his/her parents will stay with them only until they can find their friend and soon they are off. There is also still what one might call a â€Å"great divide† between the popular kids and the not so popular kids: â€Å"When she saw me changing my dress for las vistas, Trina would just snicker. â€Å"I wouldn’t be caught at them old movies. It’s not hip!† â€Å"I like em.† â€Å"That’s cause you’re a square.† She tossed back her pageboy, arched her eyebrows (just like Joan Crawford), and then locked herself in the

Learning Team Reflection Essay Example for Free

Learning Team Reflection Essay I guess for me I am struggling with how to forecast and predict what is important enough to know what criteria is relevant information to use for the success of my organization. Since I only work in one area of the whole organization how do you predict when you are not privy to important information to know what direction to go in. I am hoping to learn how to think way outside the box and be able to see the bigger picture. One question I do have though will the company be as successful if I only concentrate on the success of the area I work in? I get how strategic management can be beneficial to an organization, and I get how ethics should play a role as well. I see the way people have done wrong actions in a company is almost like having cancer in your organization. It can slowly take over or be swift and destroy a organization. I see both issues in my work place. People riding the cuff of what is wrong behavior and out right breaking the rules. All of that behavior disrupts the goal of the organization to run effectively and efficiently. Looking forward to further discussions. After completing the assignments and reading the objectives I think I am comfortable talking about environmental scan both internal and external and how it is different from a SWOT analysis. Environmental scanning is made up of observation, reviewing, and ultimately circulating the data gathered from external and internal envi ronments based on the decisions made by the staff of the organization. This process is applied by the organization in the case of a worst case scenario; it allows an organization to carefully take care of conflicts compared to struggling to salvage a situation which is causing financial setbacks for the organization. In regards to discussing the external factors of an organization and why they should be reviewed as part of the internal environmental scan, below are some reasons why this should happen. 1. Economic forces: Regulates the transferring of materials, money, energy, and information (Wheelen Hunger, 2010, p. 99). 2. Technological forces: Is what generates problem-solving inventions (Wheelen Hunger, 2010, p. 99).  3. Political–legal forces: Is what allocates power and provides constraining and protecting laws and regulations (Wheelen Hunger, 2010, p. 99). 4. Sociocultural forces: Is what regulates the values, mores, and customs of society (Wheelen Hunger, 2010, p. 99). In regards to discussing some of the internal considerations of an organization and why the organization should evaluate them as part of the internal environmental scan, the following are some reason: 1. Value: Is when it provides customers value and competitive advantage (Wheelen Hunger, 2010, p. 138). 2. Rareness: Is when other competitors possess it (Wheelen Hunger, 2010, p. 138). 3. Imitability: Is when it becomes costly for others to imitate (Wheelen Hunger, 2010, p. 138). 4. Organization: Is when the organization utilizing the resource to its advantage (Wheelen Hunger, 2010, p. 138). There is a difference from Environmental scan and a traditional SWOT due to the environmental scan gathering data while the SWOT is more involved with gathering information and research to establish an ultimate plan. In last week’s class I got a better understanding of the 4 phases of strategic management which are basic financial planning, forecast-based planning, externally oriented strategic planning and strategic management. By emphasizing what strategic management actually means to an organization I was able to get a more in depth concept of the benefits such as how performance can be improved by providing organizational learning tactics understanding the strategic vision of the organization. I can actually relate to this because I have recently completed my green belt lean six sigma which allows me to be part of working groups that have been task to identify gaps and improve business processes and practices in various area in the logistics directorate in which I work. By being part of a working group at work and also being in this strategic management class I truly believe that this will increase my development in the area of strategic thinking to be an impact player in my organizati on. I look forward to these next few weeks. Reference Wheelen, T.L., Hunger, J.D. (2010). Concepts in Strategic Management and Business Policy (12th ed.). Isaac Asimov, Mind of a Child Essay -- essays research papers

Throughout history man has always had a vivid imagination. In prehistoric times, old man used to write stories, tales and such upon their cave dwelling walls. These were performed through the use of symbols. These symbols, called hieroglyphics, portrayed the thoughts and creativity of their authors. Boszhardt once said while talking about the cave pictures in Wisconsin, "When I first visited the cave, I was skeptical about the possible art that Daniel had written to me about, But once my flashlight came upon some of the drawings, there was no question that this was authentic Native American art. The birds, deer, and bow hunters are of styles that had to be prehistoric, and the charcoal had been absorbed into the rock. I was literally stunned--this was real, this was old, and there was a lot of it." In ancient Egypt, we also find such displays of messages and stories. Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve all heard of such writings in the pyramids and such. The most brilliant display of these messages lies in the Mexico Desert with its mile long pictures created by who are believed to be Aztecs. These messages from the very beginning offered new, unique views and ideas upon existing scenarios. Ancient authors who had witnessed and read such symbols got their own ideas and developed their own style of writing and stories. This is has happened throughout history and is most prevalent in todayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s society. In the early 1900à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s technology began to boom. Many tales of science fantasy were created. The imagination of many was stirred violently as America and the U.S.S.R. were neck and neck in the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Space Raceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬?. Magical tales of aliens and Martians were shaped by the twisted and horrifically minds of authors such as Isaac Asimov. Many remember the comical almost, ridiculous movies of the early nineteen fifties. At that time though, many believed them to be real and were frightened beyond normal convention. Many authors in this era began to evolve, much how the earlier ancient writers evolved themselves. I will give you a brief biography of Isaac Asimov to allow you to understand his writing better and relinquish the ideas captured within his works. Throughout his amazing and fantastical life he has written almost five hundred astonishing works. While not... ..., Robot is a collection of short stories written by the science fiction author himself, Isaac Asimov. He set out the principles of robot behavior that we know as the Three Laws of Robotics. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harmà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬? (choen, Lindsay. I,Robot) Contained in this whimsical collection are stories of robots gone mad, mind-reading robots, robots with a sense of humor, robot politicians, and robots that secretly run the world, all told with Asimov's trademark dramatic blend of science fact and science fiction. This collection has set the boundaries and set a certain criteria for other authors to follow and keep consistency in their stories involving robots and other forms of artificial intelligence. Throughout time many innovators come and go. For some of these great men we remember not only their accomplishments but them as a person. Many of our modern technologies were developed or founded by one man, but do we know their names? Isaac Asimov must be considered one of the few innovators whom have not only shaped a new idea into reality but have also kept their legacy along with it.

Interview with a Medical Coder Essay

Medicine is an art, it is science and business. There are scientific and artistic aspects those doctors learn in the profession of medicine. Doctors have to be paid which requires a different skill that is complex and comes with administrative professional. Hint a Medical Biller and Coding. Medical Billers and Coders work with clinics, doctors, hospitals, patients, and other medical facilities. Submitting claims to insurance companies help ensure that supporting staff and doctors are properly reimbursed for services rendered. When one is a Medical Biller there are abbreviations and acronyms that help save time when filing a claim. Many offices have their own most frequently used acronyms and abbreviations that they use to do their coding and billing. There are many acronyms and abbreviations used in all medical practices. Here are some examples: EDI (Electronic Data Interchange): Electronic claims that are sent to a central clearinghouse for distribution for individual carriers. EOB (Explanation of Benefits): This refers to a document that is issued by an insurance company that responds to a claim statement which outlines what services are covered and what services are not, and what level of reimbursement are available. HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act): The privacy rule, which outlines certain entities in a person health plan, clearinghouses can disclose or use person health information, and who may be allowed to access a patients personal medical records. HMO (Health Maintenance Organization): Is a health management plan that requires patients to have a PCP (primary care physician). A PCP is where patients seek out most of their initial treatment at. If the PCP feels like it is necessary to seek treatment from specialist they will send a patient to within that network. CMS (Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services): United States Department of Health & Human Services that administer Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program, and Medicare. PPO (Preferred Provider Organization): This allows patients to visit providers that are contracted with their insurance companies. If that patient visits a non-contracted provider, the claim will be considered out-of-network. WC (Workers Compensation): The U.S. Department of Labor program provides insurance for employees whom may get injured on their place of employment. POS (Point of Service): An insurance plan that offers low cost HMOs when a patient sees network providers by their insurance company. Currently the medical coding is transitioning from ICD-9 to ICD-10. ICD-10 is presenting itself with more specific information and data, which in the turn helps with the World Health Organization (WHO). With the new ICD-10 codes have increased in character length giving the biller to right which specific extremity it is on a patient (left arm, right arm). ICD-10 compliance date is coming October 1, 2014. ICD- 10 reimbursement has said to have some challenges with DRG payments. The changes that are known to take place do not affect the DRG (Drug Related Groups) calculation as expected. The majority of reimbursements that come to a hospital are based on DRG. The impact on an organization with Medicare revenue of $150 million using a -0.04% variance it would be a $600,000 loss, which is still a substantial amount. Amounts of reimbursements can shift and vary depending on mix of a facilities DRG’s. In ICD-10 financial impact will be with slowdown in submission of final codes, rejections and denials because on inaccurate codes, and productivity loss (Smith, 2013). Medical billers and coders should not be overly concerned with these changes. Medical Billing and Coding specialist deal with patients medical records which contain physician’s notes for services that were rendered at the time of the patients visit. The medical biller and coder translates that information to a five-digit code from American Medical Association Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) or from Statistical Classification of Disease and Related Health Problems (ICD). It is crucial for the ICD and CPT codes match with the services rendered or a claim will be rejected, many claims are initially rejected. The cost of healthcare is on the rise and the demand for services has increased of required and specialty services feed into the financial greed among HMOs. The major bulk of hospital bills are paid directly by the patient’s health insurance provider which are termed the payer. 68% of the United States population has private insurance which is provided by their employer or self-pay. Around 9% of the population are self-payers who direct-purchase their insurance. There are two main categories of third- party payers they are government and private. Medicaid and Medicare are the largest government issued payers. Reimbursements for both private and governmental have policies that support therapeutics, diagnostics and new medical medicines and technologies. It is clinically evidence based approvals such as diagnostic test, prescription medicines, clinical trials and however insurers are using to help with their life cycle. With reimbursements there are incentives for medical facilities and doctors. Reimbursements are a source of revenue for hospitals; payers do not pay a full price for services. Healthcare has become the economy’s largest force. Healthcare services are very different from other industries because of the production rate. In the healthcare industry the technology advancement makes a bigger impact than other industries. An assembly line at a manufacturing plant process thousands of the same or identical items. These items are produced by robots and machines which dehumanizes the industry. Patients are cared for on unique terms one by one. Health care is also locally based in every city and state and are not outsourced or out of the country. As the healthcare industry is growing the productivity is slowing down. Thus the cost of production in the healthcare industry steadily rises. References (n.d.) AMA American Medical Association. â€Å"The Difference between ICD-9 and ICD-10†. High Dreams Taxing Marijuana Essay examples - 1944 Words

High Dreams Taxing marijuana would be an asset to this country’s economy by helping them with the debts, rebuilding schools, and lowering crime rates. According to Matt Ferner of the Huffington Post, since Colorado legalized marijuana the state has made $600 million in combined wholesale and retail sales (Ferner). This can be great because the United States could pay off much of its debts. That amount of money was earned through a 25 percent tax on retail purchasing, including a 15 percent excise tax, and a 10 percent sales tax (Ferner). Another asset of taxing marijuana is that the government can give some of the money to the public. Some of this money can go to schools, hospitals, and medical treatments. The rest can go to creating new†¦show more content†¦All sales are assessed the standard state sales tax of 2.9 percent, plus there is a special 10 percent state tax and 15 percent excise tax, and there is also an extra local sales and excise tax in many cities (NBC ). In addition to sales taxes there are a couple of rules for the sale of marijuana. There is a state sales tax imposed on retail marijuana and marijuana products on top of the 2.9 on existing state sales tax which is an addition to local sales tax. According to Kelly Phillips, a contributor to Forbes stated that together with the sales and special taxes, and Phillips stated that Denver County accounted for more than half of all medical and recreational marijuana related sales tax while outside of Denver; taxes can be closer to 13 percent (Phillips). However, as the price for marijuana gets higher, Colorado will still be taxing and the state will still be making a lot of money from this drug. The majority of Americans say they prefer cutting programs to increasing taxes as a way to deal with the nation’s budget deficit (Huffington Post). Marijuana legalization would seemingly give the government money without doing either (Huffington Post). Also according to the Huffington Post, with this legalization it can improve the economy as much as 13.7 billion per year, and as the Huffington post states, â€Å"At a minimum, this debate will force advocates of current policy to show that prohibition has benefits sufficient to justify the cost ofShow MoreRelatedPresident Richard Nixon : The United State1720 Words   |  7 PagesStates’ war on drugs.
